“THE FEAST OF THE ANCESTORS” SAMHAIN

Hello Wild Ones,

Today marks Samhain—the ancient Gaelic festival that became what we now call Halloween.

Long before costumes and candy, it was the Feast of the Ancestors: a sacred turning when fires were lit to honor those who came before, and offerings were made to guide their spirits home.

Here in the Northeast, the trees are shedding their colors, their silhouettes standing bare against the dimming sky. The air is sharp with the scent of decaying leaves and rich earth, and the memory of the ancients runs deep beneath the soil. This cross-quarter day, halfway between the Autumn Equinox and Winter Solstice, asks us to slow down, to release what has ripened, and to listen for what wishes to be born in the dark.

Last Saturday’s Cacao and Croning Ceremony reflected this threshold beautifully. Gentle drumming welcomed each woman into the circle, where she was blessed and crowned by her sisters. We offered to the fire what was ready to be transformed, and to the water, the new essence we now embody.

There is a deep medicine in women witnessing one another through life’s passages—a holy remembering of how community midwifes our becoming.

As the veil thins, may we each find a way to honor those who walked before us.

Light a candle.

Cook a dish from your lineage.

Whisper gratitude into the wind.

Reflect on what gifts and wounds have traveled through your line, and how you might bring healing and authenticity forward for the generations yet to come.

And as we walk through this turning of the year, may we remember what Ram Dass reminded us so simply:
“We are all just walking each other home.”

If your heart is yearning for deeper connection or quiet reflection, I invite you to reach out. Schedule a Heart-to-Heart Tea Time or a Sacred Journey—an opportunity to pause, listen, and remember the wild wisdom within.
Call or text (401) 644-7253 or
email info@rewildyoursanctuary.org to book your time together.

Until next time, may you walk gently and remember—you are never alone.

From the hearth of my heart,

Katherine
