As many of you know, Democrat State Rep Anne Margaret-Ferrante passed away on Thanksgiving morning. Whether we agreed with her politics or not our community mourned her passing this past week.

You can read many of the  tributes here: https://www.gloucestertimes.com/news/local_news/ferrante-celebrated-for-sending-out-ripples-of-hope-from-gloucester-harbor-each-day/article_f7f008e3-fe37-487a-acc1-0dd85d475eb0.html

With the seat vacant, two new candidates have declared their candidacies for State Rep for the 5th Essex District (which includes: Rockport, Gloucester, Essex, and Manchester).

Those candidates are Sarah Wilkinson of Rockport, a former Rockport Selectwoman, and Dru Tarr of Gloucester, who has volunteered for Ferrante. Neither of these candidates is a Republican.

A special election date has not yet been called, and the next scheduled election is November 2026.

Needless to say, we hope a good conservative Republican steps forward, as this can be a pickup.

I know some who are considering it, and I’m sure we’ll find out soon.

Keep this election on your radar.
