Whitehouse Delivers $27.8 Million Direct Investment in RI Public Safety and Clean Water Infrastructure
23 Whitehouse-supported projects were successfully included in Minibus funding package heading to President’s desk
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse announced that $27,790,000 is heading to Rhode Island to support a total of 23 projects that will help strengthen public safety and upgrade infrastructure across the Ocean State. The earmarks were included in a package of three fiscal year 2026 appropriations bills that were approved by the Senate this afternoon and head to the President’s desk to be signed into law.
“This funding will provide a boost for local law enforcement, improve clean water infrastructure, and create opportunities for Rhode Islanders,” said Whitehouse, Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. “I am very glad that Congress was able to get this bipartisan package over the finish line.”
Many of the earmarks supported by Whitehouse were secured in partnership with Senator Jack Reed, Congressman Seth Magaziner, and Congressman Gabe Amo. The three-bill “Minibus” encompasses the Commerce-Justice-Science, Energy-Water Development, and Interior-Environment funding bills.
The Whitehouse-supported funding awards include $449,000 to allow the Scituate Police Department to purchase new vehicles and equipment, $650,000 for wastewater treatment upgrades in Charlestown, and $1,031,000 to allow the City of East Providence to remove marine debris from the Providence River.
