The newly redesigned Arts of West, South, and Southeast Asia Gallery displays recent acquisitions and rarely seen works on paper, offering new context to the history and geopolitics of these artworks. Reimagined displays bring the impactful art in this gallery to life in new ways.
Contemporary Art

Ongoing
The contemporary art gallery chronicles the past eight decades as a still-evolving chapter, illustrating how artists across disciplines, generations, and geographies respond to the experiences of their time. From the mid-20th century to works being created today, contemporary art challenges conventions, explores new media, and expands our shared visual language.
Examples from mid-century through the 1970s, including iconic works by Grace Hartigan, Alex Katz, Louise Nevelson, and Andy Warhol provide visitors with landmarks from which to explore more recent contributions by artists including Tony Feher, Jeffrey Gibson, Beatriz Milhazes, Nam June Paik, Doris Salcedo, Yinka Shonibare, and Kiki Smith.

Located along the second-floor balcony overlooking the Renaissance Court, the European art galleries transport you to Leonardo’s Italy, Rembrandt’s Holland, Monet’s France, and more. Discover the lifelike naturalism of Dutch genre scenes, the meticulous detail of marble sculptures, and the vivid colors of the impressionists. Among the paintings and sculptures, full suits of gleaming knight’s armor from the Museum’s expansive Higgins Armory Collection hold watch over the galleries.
