RIPTA: NEW COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT RATIFICATION

Joint Statement from RIPTA Chief Executive Officer Christopher Durand and Amalgamated Transit Union Local 618 President Walter Melillo

“The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority and Amalgamated Transit Union Local 618 are pleased to announce the ratification of a new collective bargaining agreement that reflects the value of RIPTA’s frontline transit workers and the essential role they play in serving communities across Rhode Island.

The agreement includes a wage increase and improvements to processes and procedures that address day-to-day operational challenges. These changes are designed to support more predictable scheduling, improve working conditions, and strengthen the reliability of service for riders.

Throughout negotiations, both parties remained focused on mutual respect, fairness, and the shared goal of supporting a stable, professional transit workforce.

RIPTA and ATU Local 618 look forward to continuing to work together to support transit workers, improve service delivery, and ensure public transportation remains a dependable option for Rhode Islanders.”
