Winter Break Art Program: Season of Making
Spark creativity this February Vacation at the New Bedford Art Museum.

Season of Making is a Monday to Friday February Vacation art program, with one registration covering the entire week. Young artists will spend five full days exploring creativity, imagination, and self expression through hands on art making.
Students will experiment with a wide range of materials and techniques while creating artwork they will be proud to bring home and share. Each day begins with engaging prompts and guided lessons led by the Museum’s professional teaching artists, followed by open studio exploration, creative games, and collaborative group activities.
What to Bring: Children must bring their own lunch and drinks each day. All art supplies and snacks are provided.
If your child needs to miss a day, that’s perfectly fine.

Program Overview
Spark creativity this February Vacation at the New Bedford Art Museum. Season of Making is a full-day art program that invites young artists to spend the week exploring creativity, imagination, and self-expression through hands-on art making.
Students will experiment with a wide range of materials and techniques while creating artwork they’ll be proud to bring home and share. Each day begins with engaging prompts and guided lessons led by the Museum’s professional teaching artists, followed by open studio exploration, creative games, and collaborative group activities.
Participants will build confidence, make new friends, and strengthen their artistic skills in a warm, welcoming environment designed to encourage curiosity, creative growth, and meaningful artistic experiences during February Vacation.
Daily Prompts
Monday: Art Is Everywhere
Artists create the characters, images, and designs kids see every day. Students will explore cartoons, illustrations, logos, and visual styles from TV, books, and daily life, then create artwork inspired by the art they already love.
Tuesday: Patterns in Motion & Pottery
Students will start the day with an exciting wheel throwing clay session, exploring circular forms and movement on the pottery wheel. They’ll then experiment with patterns and repetition through printmaking and drawing inspired by rhythm and motion.
Wednesday: Creatures with Character
Students will design expressive animals or imaginary creatures while exploring emotion, body language, and storytelling through drawing and mixed media.
Thursday: Glow Against Dark & Pottery
Students will begin with a wheel throwing clay session, then create bold artwork that explores light and shadow. Through drawing and mixed media, they’ll experiment with contrast, highlights, and mood to make their art glow and stand out.
Friday: Color Explosion
Students will wrap up the week with colorful, splashy painting projects. They’ll explore color palettes, mixing, and expression while creating energetic artwork full of movement and personality.
