Did you know that arms and armor were used even in early Colonial America? In this interactive demonstration, discover the weapons and equipment early European settlers in New England used for defense. This program is presented by The Salem Trayned Band, a re-enacting group that accurately recreates a 17th-century English colonial militia unit from Salem, Massachusetts.

The long-anticipated opening of our expansive 5,000-square-foot galleries is coming soon, and construction on the new space is well underway. Using innovative open-storage display methods, the immersive new galleries will display upwards of 1,000 arms and armor objects beginning in late 2025. During this special preview, curator Jeffrey Forgeng will offer a first glimpse at the new galleries through renderings, photos, and behind-the-scenes stories.
