LINDEN PLACE – TALES OF THE SEA

Tales of the Sea – book talk with local author Cindy Elder

Bristol, R.I.- Linden Place Museum is pleased to host local author Cindy Elder for a special evening talk on Thursday, May 22 at 7:00 PM in the Linden Place Ballroom.

Cindy Elder

Elder will discuss her new historical novel, Tales of the Sea (Holand Press, 2025), which tells the true story of a seafaring family from West Barnstable, Massachusetts, during the final chapter of the Great Age of Sail and the Civil War.

Drawing from hundreds of pages of unpublished ship’s logs, letters, and journals, Elder’s two-book series is the result of extensive historical research and a deep personal connection to maritime history.

During the presentation, she will share the journey that led her to transform these archival documents into a compelling narrative, offering insight into the lives of lighthouse keepers, sailors, ship captains, soldiers, freedom seekers, and women who faced the perils of the sea to hold their families together.

Cindy Elder is a lifelong sailor and writer who lives with her family on the edge of Hundred Acre Cove in Barrington, Rhode Island.

She and her husband, Bob, have been sailing the waters of Narragansett Bay and beyond for nearly 30 years alongside their daughters, Emily and Elizabeth.

Elder holds a BA in creative writing from Roger Williams University and an MPA from Brown University.

She is currently partnering with both institutions to research the remarkable story of a freedom seeker born in 1816, whose narrative was discovered within her own family’s records. In addition to her writing, Elder serves as executive director of the Barrington Land Conservation Trust.

This event promises to be a rich and engaging evening of storytelling, history, and maritime heritage, complete with a Q&A and book signing following the talk.

Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for Linden Place members.
