Wheel Throwing For Everyone

Saturdays, August 2 – 23

The Classes for All Levels

10:00AM – 1:00PM
Saturdays, August 2 – 23
Members: $189.00 | Non-Members: $210.00

Whether you are an enthusiastic beginner or an experienced pro with the wheel, you are welcome in this class, which will cover all aspects of the ceramics process.

You’ll learn how to throw on the potter’s wheel and you will practice new throwing techniques and hone specific skills. The instructor will help students increase the amount of clay they can handle successfully, throw thinner and taller, and throw new shapes. We will practice attachments such as handles, as well as pulling handles directly from the side of the cup. The class will focus primarily on tableware shapes – mugs, cups, bowls plates, etc, but all ideas and forms of expression through clay are encouraged!

Classes meet 1 day a week for 4 weeks.
(August 2, 9, 16, 23)

All necessary materials are provided for this hands-on experience.

Week 1 is the introductory class. We’ll go over some very basic techniques like blending, layering, and burnishing along with a quick rundown of color theory.

Week 2 will cover how to do a color study and then you will complete a simple guided colored pencil drawing together.

In week 3 we will be drawing eyes! Have no fear — eyes may be tricky but we’ll help. You can pick the eye you want to draw and we will walk you through basic color selection and rendering. By this class you’ll have a realistic eye drawing to show off, and a deeper understanding of the process.

In week 4 we will tackle drawing a portrait with colored pencils as a grand finale to the class. We’ve reviewed basic techniques, color theory, and how to break down an image and this is where it all comes together.

The Classes

Saturdays, August 9 – August 30
Members: $104 | Non-Members: $115

This four-week class is designed for beginners who want to build a strong foundation in portrait drawing, using the medium of their choice: pencil, charcoal, colored pencil, or even ink.

In Week 1, we’ll cover essential techniques like proportion, placement, and light and shadow, along with simple exercises to help you start seeing the face as form.

Week 2 takes a closer look at facial features. Learn how to break them down, understand their anatomy, and render them with confidence.

In Week 3, we’ll move into value studies and how to plan a portrait using reference images. You’ll begin a guided drawing focused on structure and likeness.

In Week 4, we’ll bring it all together in a full portrait drawing. You’ll apply what you’ve learned to create a finished piece, with guidance on refining features and adding expression and realism.

Whether you’re just getting started or want to revisit the fundamentals, this class offers a supportive, step-by-step approach to capturing the human face.
