Celebrating 26 Years of Giving:

15,000 Backpacks with School Supplies to be Distributed Statewide

Free Backpacks Distribution-Saturday, August 23 from 10am-1:00pm or until supply last/ Mochilas Gratis

Providence, RI –The Back-to-School Celebration of Rhode Island is proud to announce its 26th Annual Back-to-School Celebration. On Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (or while supplies last), the organization will distribute 15,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to students across the state.

This year’s event will be held at 12 locations statewide, including two new distribution sites in Cranston and Pawtucket:

Veteran’s Memorial Elementary School, 150 Fuller Ave., Central Falls

Cranston YMCA, 1225 Park Ave., Cranston (new)

Garvin Memorial Elementary, 1364 Diamond Hill Rd., Cumberland

East Bay Community Action Program, 6 John H. Chafee Blvd., Newport

Jenks Middle School, 350 Division St., Pawtucket

Samuel Slater Middle School, 281 Mineral Spring Ave., Pawtucket (new)

Nathanael Greene Middle School, 721 Chalkstone Ave., Providence

Student Registration & Placement Center, 325 Ocean St., Providence

United Way of Rhode Island, 50 Valley St., Providence

West End Community Center, 109 Bucklin St., Providence

Thundermist Health Center, 186 Providence St., West Warwick

Woonsocket Middle School, 60 Florence Dr., Woonsocket

Back to School Celebration of RI has been supporting families for over two decades,” said Grace Gonzalez, Board President. “Our mission is simple: to make sure every child starts the school year prepared to learn, no matter their circumstances.”

The Back to School Celebration of RI is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering family engagement in children’s education and promoting open communication between schools, students, and families. For 26 years, the organization has provided essential resources to thousands of families statewide, ensuring children are well-prepared for the school year. Starting with just 600 backpacks and limited school supplies at one location, the program has grown significantly, now distributing 15,000 backpacks and supplies across 12 community sites throughout the state.
