CHILDREN’S SUMMER READING PROGRAM
@ the Pawtucket Library (13 Summer St.)

The Pawtucket Public Library is excited to announce this year’s summer reading program “Plant a Seed, Read.” Children of all ages can be Summer Readers. Children entering grades 1-5 can read on their own or with family and friends. Collect prizes after reading 3 hours, 6 hours, and 9 hours. Once 9 hours are complete, your child will earn two raffle tickets for this year’s prize baskets. For our youngest pre-readers, ages 0-5, we have an activity log. After every three (3) activities are completed, your child will earn a prize. Complete 9 activities and earn two raffle tickets for this year’s prize baskets. Register for the program in the children’s library, on the bookmobile or online at www.pawtucketlibrary.org. All children are welcome to attend the following programs scheduled in July and August:
Music & Movement
Fridays July 10, 24 August 7, 21 10:30 AM
Come join us as we make music and move our bodies! Babies, toddlers, and preschoolers are invited to participate in this new program where children and their caregivers will sing, dance and have fun while we move our bodies! Older siblings are welcome. No registration required.
KRARI Book Club
Friday July 10, 3:00 PM
Kids Reading Across Rhode Island (KRARI), Rhode Island’s One Book, One State community read program for kids, is offered by the RI Office of Library and Information Services (OLIS) in partnership with the Rhode Island Center for the Book (RICfB). The first 15 kids to register will receive a free copy of the book “Conjure Island” Other copies will be available for check-out. Join us to share your thoughts about the book and complete a craft. Sensory Friendly LEGO Club
Saturday July 11 August 8, 2:00 PM
Bring your imagination, we’ll bring the LEGOs (Megablocks & Duplos too)! This free drop-in program is inclusive as well as for families with children on the autism spectrum disorder or sensory needs. This program is great for building social skills and making new friends. Registration is encouraged, but not required.
Minecraft – Wonders of the World
Monday July 13, 3:00 – 4:30 PM
Embark on a legendary adventure to uncover the 7 Ancient Wonders of the World! From the soaring Great Pyramid of Giza, to the lush Hanging Gardens, history comes to life in this activity! “World of Wonders” is an immersive Minecraft experience designed to spark curiosity and wonder. Participants will experience the 7 Ancient Wonders of the World by navigating complex puzzles and hidden chambers, inside, they’ll learn about the architectural mastery and cultural heritage of civilizations past in this hands-on journey. Family Movie Matinee
Friday July 17 & 31, 10:30 AM
Join us for a summer Family Movie Matinee. Children with their families are invited to watch a free movie (rated G or PG) at the Library’s Campbell Auditorium. Kids age 10 or older may attend without a caregiver. Snacks allowed. No registration required.
Family Zumba
Saturday July 18, 11:00 AM
Join us for a fun morning of Zumba for the whole family! Be sure to wear comfortable clothes. No prior experience needed. No registration required.
The Books that Grew Us: A Community Media Project
Monday July 20 & 27, 3:30 PM
What book planted a seed in your life? Whether it’s a childhood classic or a recent discovery, we invite you to share a book you love and transform that inspiration into art. In this collaborative two-part workshop, you’ll dive into a multimedia project, moving from personal storytelling to hands-on creation. By the end of the series, you’ll have the tools and the tech to bring your favorite literary moments to life. Register on the library’s calendar. Please note: This workshop has two sessions, and attendance at both is highly encouraged.
Animal Experiences

Families with children of all ages are invited for a fun educational program about different amazing animals with Dave. Everyone will get the chance to hold an animal and take pictures. Space is limited. Registration is required. Register on the library’s calendar.
Drop-In Family Decorate a Plant Pot

Drop by and decorate your own plant pot. We will provide all of the supplies and you provide the imagination! We will even get you started with a seed to plant.
Science Saturday

Young scientists in grades 3-6 are encouraged to join us in the library to explore a new scientific concept and complete an experiment or activity designed to answer questions about the natural world. Drop-In Slime

Summer Reading Finale Party with Dinosaur Safari

Celebrate the end of Summer Reading with a Dinosaur Safari! A fun summer reading magic show that hides the learning. This interactive program takes the kids on an adventure tour of dinosaur discoveries with a spotlight on New England.
Stick around after the program because we will be pulling the winners for each of our prize baskets!
Seeds in Motion with the Providence Children’s Museum

Step into a world of discovery with Seeds in Motion: Grow, Gather, Tell, a playful, hands-on experience for families of all ages!
Drop in and explore interactive stations where you can, Plant and investigate how seeds grow. Play games that show how pollinators help plants thrive. Discover foods and stories from around the world. Create seed balls to help grow your own garden
Along the way, you’ll uncover how seeds connect science, nature, and culture—and how even small actions can help grow a healthier world. Come for a few minutes or stay to explore it all!
