Free concert by the RI Philharmonic at the Temple to Music this Wednesday
PROVIDENCE, RI — The public is invited to a free performance of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra at Temple to Music in the Roger Williams Park this Wednesday, August 5, beginning at 7 p.m.
The theme of this year’s concert – “Outstanding Overtures” — celebrates some of the most beloved overtures from Broadway, film and classical music. Conducted by audience favorite Troy Quinn, the 69-piece orchestra will perform two 40-minute sets.
Concert-goers can expect to hear favorites from Wicked, West Side Story, Mary Poppins and Beauty and the Beast. As always, the concert will end with the 1812 Overture.
Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets, settle in with family and friends, and enjoy an unforgettable evening of live music in one of Rhode Island’s most beautiful outdoor settings.
In addition to the concert, food trucks will be onsite at the Temple to Music serving local, regional and global cuisine. Dishes like seafood, Dominican fare, and doughboys are on the menu. Free parking is available throughout Roger Williams Park.
The concert is possible thanks to the support of the Rhode Island Foundation, the city of Providence, the Roger Williams Park Conservancy, Washington Trust and KLR.

This is the tenth time the Foundation has helped bring the Philharmonic to Roger Williams Park. When the Foundation first did it to celebrate its Centennial in 2016, the orchestra had not performed at the Temple to Music in more than a decade.
During intermission, the Foundation will present three of its most prestigious annual awards on the Temple to Music stage. Peter Chung, executive director of Young Voices, will receive the Civic Leadership Award; Conexion Latina Newport will receive the Community Leadership Award; and Pamela Johnston, president and CEO of Ocean State Media; will receive the Trailblazer Award.
