Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse will host a booth at The Looff: East Providence Arts Festival on Saturday, August 8 from 11 AM to 5 PM at Crescent Park, 701 Bullocks Point Ave., Riverside. Rain date is August 9. Children are welcome to have their photo taken through one of the windows of the replica wooden lighthouse photo display or participate in a scavenger hunt to win prizes. Information will be available on summer tours to the Lighthouse, which continue through mid-September. Tickets for the SUNsational Raffle will be available for $10 each or 3 for $25. Prizes include a 40-minute boat ride for two passengers in La Gondola, Providence, tickets to Theatre By The Sea, tickets to Aging Disgracefully, a lunch and comedy show at The Old Grist Mill in Seekonk, MA in September and tickets to the musical comedy Bye Bye Birdie by The Community Players in Pawtucket in November. Prizes also include a Dine Around Package, with a $50 gift certificate to your choice of dining from Newport Restaurant Group and a Dine In Town Package, with gift cards to local restaurants. Proceeds benefit the historical chimney restoration project at Pomham Rocks Lighthouse. Drawing for the raffle will take place at 5 PM on August 8 at the Pomham Lighthouse booth.
The Lighthouse booth will celebrate A Summertime Christmas with a selection of ornaments for sale. New this year is a three-inch oval pewter ornament, featuring an embossed design of the iconic 1871 light station, handcrafted by Salisbury Pewter of Maryand. A one-of-a-kind collectible piece, it sells for $30. A specially-commissioned replica ornament of the lighthouse’s iconic Fresnel lens, on display in the museum, will be available for $20. A collectible glass ornament, featuring a colorful photo of the lighthouse will sell for $20.
A limited supply of handcrafted pottery mugs, from the noted Deneen Pottery of St. Paul, Minnesota will be available while supplies last. The 14-ounce mug is available in a variety of colors. A locally-produced 12-ounce ceramic mug, featuring a photo of The Lighthouse, and made in East Providence by Barlow Designs, will also be offered. T-shirts and caps embroidered with the Pomham Rocks Lighthouse logo will be available, as well as jewelry, books, and other items.
Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse is a 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation. This important New England maritime light station and museum is an integral part of Rhode Island’s heritage and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
