New Chairman, Four New Members Join Board of Directors of RI Society of CPA’s
The RI Society of CPA’s (RISCPA) announces a new Chairman and four new Board members have been named to its Board of Directors. John M. Mathias, CPA, a Partner at Piccerelli, Gilstein & Co., LLP, became the Chairman in May as Kenneth J. Andsager completed his term. Mathias, among the most respected accountants in the region who handles audit and tax client issues for the firm, holds numerous accreditations including a CVA (Certified Valuation Analyst), ABV, (Accredited in Business Valuation) and MST (Masters in Taxation). He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA) and is a licensed CPA in Massachusetts and Maine, in addition to RI.
The four new Board members include Gerald S. Benson, CPA, Portsmouth, RI; Daniel R. Bonnette, CPA, RSM, Boston, MA; Erica Guatieri, CPA, Kahn, Litwin, Renza & Co. Warwick, RI; and Paul D. Ragosta, attorney/auditor in Providence.

Gerald “Jay” Benson, CPA, MST, Enrolled Agent, has worked in tax preparation for the public and private sectors for over three decades, and currently serves as the Tax Director for Ocean State Job Lot Inc., in North Kingstown, RI. In addition to serving on the RISCPA Board, he also chairs the RISCPA Federal and State Tax Committee, and is the President of the Executive Association of RI. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP), and the National Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA). Jay holds a Masters in Taxation from Bryant University.

Daniel R. Bonnette, CPA, is a Partner at RSM, Boston, MA, and serves as the firm’s Boston Office Higher Public Sector Practice Leader, and is a firm-designated higher education, not-for-profit, and government specialist with over 25 years of experience. He has managed the audits of numerous higher education institutions and not-for-profit organizations in the region, including many with international operations. Prior to RSM, he spent 18 years at Deloitte & Touche, LLP, where he served as National Learning Leader for Deloitte’s Public Sector Practice. In addition to his Board membership with the RI Society, Dan is a member of the Massachusetts Society of CPA’s, the President of the Boston Chapter of the Association of Government Accountants, and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, MA.

Erica Guatieri, CPA, MST, is a Manager in the Small and Emerging Business Group at KLR (Kahn, Litwin, Renza & Co., Ltd.), providing her clients with a broad range of technical expertise ranging from audit field work and financial statement preparation, to tax planning and advisory services. She holds a Masters in Taxation from Bryant University where she also attained her Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting. In addition to her Board membership in RISCPA, Ms. Guatieri is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

Paul D. Ragosta, Esq., a Rhode Island attorney and auditor, is the first representative of the Society’s new Professional Affiliate Membership (P.A.M.) group to serve on the Board. Paul has been a practicing attorney in the state for over 30 years, and has worked in both his own private practice and as a part time Legal Counsel and Senior Auditor for the Office of the State Auditor General. His Providence law practice concentrates in general civil litigation, real estate law, probate matters, and securities/business transactions. He holds a Committee Membership in the RI Bar Association, and is a member of the American Bar Association. He is a graduate of the New England School of Law, Boston, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Suffolk University.??
