Dearest Friends of the Pawtucket Arts Festival,
With the official start of fall still weeks away, the Pawtucket Arts Festival (PAF) is putting finishing touches on plans for its 19th annual September celebration of arts and creative enterprise.
PAF 2017 offers a month-long schedule devoted to the fine and popular arts, as well as family friendly creative events.??Of particular note is this year???s 16th Anniversary Performance of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra on September 9th for a concert that draws thousands to Slater Memorial Park for the Slater Park Fall Festival.??
Sponsored for many years by the Pawtucket Teachers??? Alliance and billed as Pops in the Park, the free concert represents a major annual gift to the City from its public school educators in this arts-aware community.
Also eagerly anticipated is the PAF Pops in the Park Grand Finale Fireworks, a striking show that rains spark and sparkle over Slater Memorial Park Pond, as the Rhode Island Philharmonic brings the audience to its feet with Tchaikovsky???s 1812 Overture.??Sponsored by Bristol County Savings Bank, the fiery display is a major gift to the community in support of the Pawtucket Arts Festival.
Pawtucket Arts Festival producers also decided that 2017 is the year to look ahead to next year???s 20th Anniversary by revisiting and updating successful program themes from PAF???s historic lineup.??As a result, visitors to Slater Park Fall Festival on September 9-10 can expect a return of the RI Labor & Ethnic Heritage Festival???s folk and heritage influenced performance on several stages throughout the Park.??
Funded, in part, by an Arts Access Grant from RI State Council on the Arts, Slater Park Fall Festival will spotlight Rhode Island???s nationally recognized and diverse arts scene with artists such as Atwater-Donnelly, Arc Iris, Czesare Santana, Eastern Medicine Singers, Chachi Carvalho, and Sidy Maiga with Afrimanding, among others, including Cowboy & Lady, Magnolia, Becky Bass, and Kim Trusty. RI Black Storytellers, RI Latino Arts, VSA Arts of Rhode Island, and the Rhody Center for World Music and Dance will be on deck to encourage audiences to share in the creative experience with international arts ambassadors pipa player Yang Wei of Yo-Yo Ma???s Silk Road Ensemble and partner American finger-style guitarist Ed Sweeney.
Additionally, innovative public art will be installed in Slater Park by Pneuhaus and a special edition, whimsical Slater Park Fall Festival poster created by artist-designer Keri King places an emphasis on new work that references PAF???s 1997 origins in Convergence X, a major international arts festival of that era.
The Pawtucket Arts Festival-Slater Park Fall Festival showcases more than 100 visual artists, artisans, performers, and regional food truck fare, presented throughout the weekend of September 9-10.??
