FALL RIVER, MASS. ??? March 5, 2018 ??? For just two Saturdays this month, Save The Bay will hold Seal Watch and Nature Tours out of Borden Light Marina in Fall River, Mass. On March 10 at 11 a.m., and March 17 at 1 p.m., the M/V Elizabeth Morris will journey down the Taunton river and into Mt. Hope Bay on the lookout for visiting harbor seals and early spring wildlife.

?? ?? ?????Guests enjoy a 75-minute scenic boat ride across Mt. Hope Bay to Spar Island and under the Braga bridge. Observing Rhode Island???s official marine mammal in a part of the bay few get to see is a very special experience,??? said Eric Pfirrmann, fleet captain and education specialist at Save The Bay.

?? ?? ??Expert guides will point out the winter visitors and discuss the rich history and environmental issues of the region. With binoculars provided, guests will likely see seals resting on rocks or coastlines, called ???hauling out,??? or ???bottling??? with their heads just above the water. The seals, which can get up to six feet long and weigh hundreds of pounds, tend to gather in large numbers on Spar Island or along the rocks of the Taunton River.

?? ?? ??Along with the seals, early spring wildlife, winter birds, islands, and historical sites are seen from the unique vantage point of the water. ???We will see Battleship Cove and its wonderful historic vessels up close from the water,??? Eric Pfirrmann.

?? ?? ??Fall River Seal Tours are $17 for Save The Bay members, seniors and children aged 3-12, $22 for non-members, and free for children under 3 years. Tours depart from Borden Light Marina on 1 Ferry Street, Fall River, Mass. Since space is limited, registration in advance is required at www.savebay.org/seals??or by calling 401-203-7325.
