EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (October 16, 2018) – The Weaver Library will??host??a??screening??of??the documentary A Plastic Ocean on??Monday, October 29, 2018 at 6:30pm.??

Directed by Craig Leeson, this powerful documentary begins as an adventure film with the search for the great blue whales in the Indian Ocean???only to find tons of plastic floating in their water. Captivating and moving, the film refocuses and inspires viewers to rethink their everyday use of plastics – from shopping bags, straws and plastic tableware to food containers- documenting how over time most of this plastic breaks down into tiny pieces invisible to the naked eye. Consumed by marine wildlife and contaminating the food supply, these microplastics pose a serious risk to ocean and human health worldwide. The film ends with some positive steps being taken to reuse plastics but stresses the urgent need to stop the production of single use plastics.

Audience members are encouraged to stay for a brief discussion of practical and local solutions.
