GINA: “WE WILL NEVER FORGET THEM”

Raimondo Statement on the Anniversary of the Sandy Hook Massacre

GOVERNOR GINA RAIMONDO

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Governor Raimondo issued the following statement on the sixth anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting:

“No parent should have to bury their child. No teacher should have to give their life to protect their students.

Six years ago, twenty-six innocent lives were taken in a senseless act of violence and hate.

The shock and devastation we felt that day will never leave us. The injustice of their deaths will always remain.

We will never forget them:

Six years ago–and every day since–our nation has failed to take action to prevent horrific shootings like the Sandy Hook massacre from happening again.

There is no excuse.

As we send love and prayers to the victims’ families in their enduring grief, we must also commit to action in their honor. We’ve made progress in Rhode Island, but we still have work to do.

Once and for all, let us come together and end our nation’s gun violence epidemic.”
