iPhone-ography for Knitters among January classes at Old Slater Mill
(Pawtucket, RI) Is 2019 the year you finally get your Etsy page up and running? If so, you must know that good photos sell more product, but maybe this has never been your forte.
Here’s the cure: Slater Mill is offering a class with professional and widely-published fashion photographer Gale Zucker on Saturday, January 19 from 8:30 to noon, as part of the 11th annual Knitting Weekend. Elevate your online visual presence, and satisfy that New Year’s resolution early on.
“We try to be contemporary and responsive with the class lineup each year, and this was an ideal program for anyone who needs to up their photo game for online and social media-based sales,” said Lori Urso, executive director of Old Slater Mill Association.
For the 11th annual Slater Mill Knitting Weekend, six half-day classes are being offered on Saturday and Sunday mornings, that include not only Zucker’s iPhoneography, but also Shawl Shapes, Charted Patterns, Lace Knitting, Brioche, and Double-Knitting.
And Zucker isn’t the only ringer bringing her talents to Slater Mill Knitting Weekend.
Berroco designer Alison Greene teaches Brioche, and double-knitting expert and author Alasdair Post-Quinn shares his knowledge and technique. “Alison and Alasdair’s classes have filled up already, but they will be in the market in the afternoon if you want a chance to meet them,” says Urso.
Dylan Uscher returns to teach this year, and it really is a return of sorts. Uscher spent much of 2018 in comedy clubs performing his stand-up act. And when not on the road, he has been baking- daily, during those intervals.
“Dylan’s classes are certainly entertaining,” says Urso, “and we’re offering two chances to work with him, with Lace Class on Saturday morning, and Charted Patterns on Sunday.”
Pam Sluter teaches Shawl Shapes this year, because, she says, “this is a staple project for its practicality and gift-ability, so you want to be able to deliver variety for this type of piece.”
Sluter is a designer and knitter who has a long association with Slater Mill, teaching during Trad Arts Studio spring and fall sessions, and going back nearly a decade.
Fee-based classes are held on the second floor of the 1793 Old Slater Mill, and are limited to twelve students, to allow for more individualized attention from instructors that accommodates a range of skill levels, and better engagement among participants.
Cast on at 8:30 a.m. sharp. Classes include morning coffee, mid-session continental breakfast, and a Berroco yarn gift bag.

Classes aren’t your thin? Well, for those who’d rather socialize and shop, a Fiber Market featuring farmers and producers from all six New England states is open to the public from 10 to 5. Free admission, free door prize raffles, and a colorful winter weekend diversion.
“Twenty vendors of hand-dyed yarns, home-spun fibers, fiber art tools and notions, glass-blown buttons, and more, make for an extremely vibrant and colorful marketplace,” boasts Urso. “It is a feast for the senses, and a fun time for all ages.”
