Attleboro MA – [June 25, 2019] – All children and teens can enjoy free, healthy meals in Attleboro and Norton. Again, this year, the Attleboro Area Interfaith Collaborative will provide nutritious meals to kids and teens 18 and under through the federal Summer Food Service Program, known in Massachusetts as Summer Eats. Working in partnership with local communities, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and Project Bread – a leading statewide anti-hunger organization – support Summer Eats programs across the state to reach as many children and teens as possible. No registration or ID is required to participate.

“Summer can be an incredibly stressful time for families who rely on school meals to feed their children,” said Erin McAleer, President of Project Bread. “Summer meals help bridge this gap by providing families safe, stigma-free places to receive healthy meals when school is out.”

Meals will be provided Tuesday thru Friday on June 25 thru August 16 (closed July 4), at a first come, first serve basis, from noon to 1pm at the following sites:

o   Balfour River Park, 74 North Main Street in Attleboro

o   Briggs Playground, East Street in Attleboro

o   Nickerson Field, Snell Street in Attleboro

o   Glen Playground, 4 Norton Glen Terrace in Norton

About Summer Eats

More than 400,000 students in Massachusetts are eligible for free and reduced-price school meals. When school is out for the summer, families who rely on these meals must scramble to make up the gap. The federally funded Summer Food Service Program, known as Summer Eats in Massachusetts, is a federally-funded program that provides free meals to children and teens during the summer months. The program is administered in Massachusetts by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, with technical assistance provided by Project Bread. Throughout the summer, anyone 18 or under can receive a free meal at any Summer Eats site in the state, often in conjunction with activities and educational programming. By providing children and teens the nutrition they need during the summer months, Summer Eats helps them return to school healthy and ready to learn.

Non-discrimination Statement

Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Meals will be provided at a first come, first serve basis.
