Senator Jack Reed, EPA and Restore America’s Estuaries Announce  Grants for Coastal Conservation and Restoration

Events will highlight local work to restore clean water and healthy coastal ecosystems, with a tour of Pawtucket’s new Tidewater Landing development.

Background: In 2012, Senator Jack Reed led Congress in securing new funding to conserve and restore Southeast New England’s coastal waters, watersheds and communities.

 

Sen. Reed’s vision led the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to develop the Southeast New England Program (SNEP). Now, Restore America’s Estuaries (RAE) is working with EPA to award SNEP Watershed Grants, funding local projects to restore clean water and healthy coastal ecosystems.

 

In 2021, this program will award $1.75 million to municipalities, non-profit organizations and others in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

What: A speaking program to announce $1.75 million in new grants to 14 organizations, introduce the grantees and highlight their work.

 

Following the grant announcements, Pawtucket city planner Anthony Hebert will discuss Tidewater Landing, an innovative new waterfront development that will include a new soccer stadium, public park and mixed-use development on both sides of the Seekonk River, connected by a new pedestrian bridge.

 

Construction has begun on the site of the new development.
