“Case Studies in Building Preservation”

Historic Deerfield invites proposals for its eighth annual symposium on Early New England Architecture, “Case Studies in Building Preservation,” scheduled on July 9, 2022. This will be a hybrid program, with both on-site and virtual registration options for attendees. Covid-19 protocols will be strictly followed throughout the symposium.

Speakers will present on site at Historic Deerfield unless Covid-19 conditions necessitate a shift to a fully virtual symposium.

Presentations will highlight recent projects undertaken by organizations, architects, conservators, specialized consultants, and trades people covering various aspects of the preservation process.

Projects must involve work on buildings located within New England and constructed no later than 1900. Speakers must be directly involved in the projects they are presenting.

Subjects of interest include:

Construction – Physical repair/restoration/conservation of buildings and materials

Research and Study – Building archaeology, historic structure reports (HSR), condition assessments, cultural landscape assessments, furnishing plans and studies

Technology – New and innovative use of technology in the preservation of historic buildings. Laser scanning, drones, LIDAR, thermal imaging, etc.

Interested individuals are asked to submit a brief summary (250 words or less) of their preservation project highlighting the key details to be covered, along with one or two images illustrating the site or work being discussed.
