RIDE: GRANT PROPOSALS AVAILABLE

Commissioner’s Memo to Friends of Education

ANGELICA

Notes from Commissioner Infante-Green

SurveyWorks is Open!

SurveyWorks, our statewide school culture and climate survey, is now live and ready for every member of our school community to make their voice heard. We’ve already had an outpouring of responses — nearly 5,000 in the first 3 days — but we want to surpass even the 119,000 responses we received last year.

It’s vital that we hear from students, families, and teachers about their experiences in our schools. This survey only takes 20 minutes to complete, so let’s work together to make sure we get as many responses as possible. School leaders can find toolkits, including social media messaging and engagement ideas, though this link.

21st Century Community Learning Center Grant Request for Proposals released

RIDE has released a

Request for Proposals (RFP) for the federal 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CLC) grant

Approximately $2.9 million is available for successful 21st Century CLC applicants providing high-quality out-of-school programs for students in elementary or secondary schools.

Priority will be given to applications that focus on meeting the unique needs of Multilingual Learners and of Differently Abled Students. Serving these two groups effectively is a key priority for RIDE. As noted by the Learning, Equity & Accelerated Pathways (LEAP) Task Force, these are students who have historically been underserved and who have been particularly impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Proposals must include both after-school and summer programming that complement the school day. Academic enrichment and family engagement are essential components of a strong 21st Century CLC program. Proposals must be jointly submitted by, and demonstrate an effective partnership between, the local education agency and a community-based organization. Other public or private entities may be identified as key partners in submitted proposals.

Prospective applicants are invited to a bidders’ conference webinar on Friday, February 4, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A Google Group has been set up for prospective applicants to receive regular updates on the grant via email.

Applicants must signal their non-binding intent to apply by Friday, February 25 at 4:00 p.m., and must apply by Friday, March 25, at 4:00 p.m.

Grants will begin on July 1, 2022, and are for five years, pending continued federal funding and successful program implementation. The RFP, scoring rubric, and required forms are on the RIDE website.
