“TEN MILE RIVER RAMBLES”

Americana Now

BY DON DOUCETTE

Stayed in all day today – did not want to risk slip and fall.

I took a deep late afternoon nap – trying to rid myself of the aftereffects of my recent medical therapy.

Nancy presently has breaded chicken thighs and baked potatoes oven roasting – the smell is superb. Fresh sliced carrots, as well.

She buys the one-pound Dole coleslaw mix which I easily convert to a tasty slaw, my own concoction.

Looking forward to our Wednesday day trip to Woodstock, Connecticut – the nice barn bakery with good hot coffee and hopefully a warm blueberry or apple turnover along with good conversation.

Late winter apples next door and then, down the steep hill for several gallons of really good and fresh milk direct from the farm – yowza.

At the tiny Elm Farm Store further on, I’ll be searching for a small fresh broiler chicken for Dutch oven simmering next week.

And a peek at any baby calves in their new bovine nursery barn and the ever-present farm smell of ground corn silage.

And... our usual slow roll through East Woodstock Village while basking in rare rural Americana.

And to all others, come and see.
