Presentation on Pomham Rocks Lighthouse Planned at Riverside Library

Have you ever walked or biked by the lighthouse when traveling on the East Bay Bike Path? Now is your chance to learn more about that historical structure and the role it played in our city and state. If the only view you’ve had was from the shore, now is the opportunity to take a glimpse inside the historical landmark.
President of Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse, Alex Dias, will share the rich maritime heritage of this historical light station, from its construction a century and a half ago to its transformation into a notable maritime museum. Dias has done extensive research on Pomham Rocks and other local light stations. Pomham Rocks Lighthouse has been completely restored inside and out and the Friends offer public tours through mid-September.
The community is invited to the presentation, sponsored by the library, on Monday, July 27 at 6 PM at Riverside Library 475 Bullocks Point Avenue.
Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse is a chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation. The Lighthouse was built in 1871 on a half-acre island of the coast of Riverside to protect mariners as shipping traffic increased to the Port of Providence. It is the last surviving lighthouse of the four that once protected East Providence and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
