Newport, RI (May 2018)??? The Newport Historical Society is participating in an open house event with more than a dozen houses of worship in Newport, RI.

The following properties of the Newport Historical Society will be open for free from 10 am-12 pm on Wednesday, July 4, 2018:

  • Colony House, Washington Square
  • The Great Friends Meeting House, 21 Farewell St.
  • Seventh Day Baptist Meeting House, 82 Touro St.?? Enter from Barney St.

Visit Washington Square for a morning of patriotic activities, including a reading of the Declaration of Independence at noon.

Throughout the day, come to more than a dozen houses of worship for a free tour to learn how the building or the congregation that worships there symbolizes Newport, Rhode Island???s commitment to freedom of religion and religious diversity.

This event is sponsored by ???Four Faiths, Four Landmarks,??? an organization that offers a summertime walking tour of four historic houses of worship and is made possible by generous support from Discover Newport as well as the participating houses of worship.

Other participants include: Channing Memorial Church, Emmanuel Episcopal Church, First Presbyterian Church, Mt. Zion AME, Newport Congregational Church, St. John the Evangelist Episcopal, St. Joseph???s Catholic Church, St. Paul???s Methodist Church, Touro Synagogue, and Trinity Episcopal Church.
