Friend,
DAVID CICILLINE RI US REPRESENTATIVE
On Friday, President Trump violated his oath of office by declaring a national emergency to build a wall that a veto-proof majority in both houses of Congress rejected.
Emergency powers are meant for responses to things like natural disasters and wars. You don’t get to use emergency powers just because you lost at the negotiation table.
Illegal border crossings are at a 40 year low. To pay for the wall, Trump is taking money from counter-narcotics work and military construction — the very things he says are priorities.
The bottom line is this: we live in a democracy, and the president is not an imperial king who can issue an edict about how our tax money is spent.

Our democracy is stronger than one man.
