Rhode Island House Representatives Chippendale, Santucci and Place Announce $45,000 USDA Grant for Glocester Police Department

STATE HOUSE, Providence – Rhode Island House Minority Leader Michael Chippendale, Representative Paul Santucci and Representative David Place today announced the approval of a $45,000 USDA Rural Development Grant for facility upgrades to the Glocester Police Department.
After touring the police department with newly appointed Glocester Police Chief Jeffrey Jennison and seeing the facility’s needs firsthand, Chippendale and Santucci reached out to their federal partners at USDA Rural Development to identify potential funding assistance for the town. The representatives connected Glocester officials with the USDA Community Facilities program, and House Minority Office staff worked with the town to complete the formal application. USDA notified the delegation today (Tuesday, September 29th) that the application had been approved and that $45,000 in grant funding is ready to be obligated.
“This is exactly the kind of result we want to deliver for the communities we represent,” said House Minority Leader Michael Chippendale. “After touring the department with Chief Jennison and seeing the need firsthand, Paul and I immediately began looking for a way to help. We brought the concern to our federal partners at USDA, our staff worked with the town through the application process, and I’m very pleased that effort has resulted in $45,000 coming back to Glocester.”
Representative Paul Santuccisaid the grant demonstrates the value of connecting local needs with available federal resources: “When we saw the conditions at the police department, we immediately started looking for resources that could support renovations. This funding will help Glocester address an important public safety facility improvement without putting the entire burden on local taxpayers.”
Representative David Placejoined Chippendale and Santucci in welcoming the investment in the Glocester Police Department as a member of the town’s legislative delegation.
The USDA Community Facilities Direct Loan and Grant Program provides funding to rural communities for essential public facilities, including police and other public-safety facilities.
Chippendale and Santucci thanked USDA Rural Development officials, Chief Jennison and town officials for their cooperation throughout the process.
