F WEAVER edited

??Join Weaver Library and Stages of Freedom in celebrating one of our nation???s singular voices on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at 2pm at the Weaver Library. Women from across the state and from all walks of life will share their favorite Maya Angelou poems in dramatic readings. Readers include former Rhode Island state poet laureate, Lisa Starr; former first lady of Newport, Eva Jo Gaines; Providence Athenaeum salon director, Christina Bevilacqua; actresses Wanda Schell and Sylvia Ann Soares; Miss Black Rhode Island 2016 Dymond Bush; and many others. The reading raises awareness of the beauty of the late Dr. Angelou???s words as spoken by women, and their ability to empower, unite and heal.

????Known for her 1969 acclaimed memoir I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Dr. Angelou published numerous poetry and essay collections. Among her many honors and awards was an invitation by President Bill Clinton to write and then to read the first inaugural poem. In 1993, Angelou recited ???On the Pulse of Morning??? at his inauguration.
